"Most important in spirituality is that your spiritual practices help you to increase the ability to transcend. Every situation that comes to you is coming to you for a purpose. You have invited this situation into your life. Certain things are repeating for which you need to find a solution now. You have to transcend them. If you are not transcending them, they will come again and again in different forms.

You may miss a flight. But it is not just about missing the flight. That event is trying to tell you something. You may be afraid of an exam – it is trying to tell you something. You fall down and break a leg – it is trying to say something to you. But with every situation that comes, we may not catch the message which the situation carries. We just try to solve the problem. We don't see that that is not the problem. The situation is trying to tell you something which has a much deeper message. Normally we tend to jump into solving the problem without getting the message. All these situations are messengers. And unless we receive the message, the messengers keep on coming, knocking at the door. If we don't receive the message, it creates big problems.

What is a spiritual practice? It is anything that you practice which helps you to increase your ability to understand these messages so that you can transcend these situations. Hate comes, from you it becomes love. Doubt comes, from you it becomes hope. Anger comes, from you it becomes peace. Selfishness comes, from you it becomes selflessness. Bondage comes, from you it becomes freedom. Boundary comes, from you it becomes infinite.

Your spirituality helps you to expand you – it gives you the ability to transcend. Whether this ability comes by eating bananas or meditating or climbing a tree, it doesn't matter, as long as it gives this ability to transcend. The practice must help you to expand. Normally we live within bondages and boundaries. ‘This is me; this is owned by me; these are my people.’ Your spiritual practice must help you to open all your bondages and boundaries – transcending and expanding."
